Given

  • A piece of wire is bent in shape of a square of side 11 cm. it is rebent to form a circular ring.

To find

  • Diameter of the ring

Solution

  • Side of square = 11cm
  • Perimeter of square = 4×11=44cm
  • Circumference of Circle = 2×pi×r
  • 44=2×pi×r
  • 44÷2=pi×r Note: pi=22÷7 or 3.14
  • 22=(22÷7)×r
  • r=(7÷22)÷22
  • r=7

So, Diameter = 7×2=14

Side of square = 11 cm

Perimeter of square = 4 × 11 = 44 cm

Circumference of circle = 2 × pi × r

44 = 2 × pi × r

44 ÷ 2 = pi × r Note: pi = 22 ÷ 7 Or 3.14

22 = ( 22 ÷ 7 ) × r

r = ( 7 ÷ 22 ) ÷ 22

r = 7

So, Diameter = 7 × 2 = 14.
