3. Aluminum being a non magnetic element, does not influence the magnetic field of the compass needle. Hence its use in making compass casing.

4. The geographical north represents the South Pole of the earth's magnet, and the geographical South is actually the north pole of the earth's magnet. So, when a magnetic needle or substance is freely suspended, the unlike poles of that magnet and the earth attract each. Thus, the north pole of the magnet points towards the South Pole of the earth's magnet which actually is the geographical North Pole.

5. Out of the two unknown bars, the one which settles itself in the north south direction when suspended freely is a magnet while the other one is the iron bar.

OR

We will take another iron bar and bring it close to both of the parts given to us, the one which shows no effect is the iron bar while the other is a magnet.

According to the question
1 is magnet & 1 is iron
place the 2 bars separately on the table .
Take some iron fillings . Then we will identify the magnet easily by the iron fillings are attracting towards the magnet. Because iron fillings are not attractive to the iron bar.
