i) Refer to the attachment...(Phloem tissue)

ii) Characteristics features of Phloem cells:

  • It is a complex tissue of plants because it contains more than one type of cell.
  • Mostly it is made up of living cells except phloem fibres which are dead.
  • It is made up of 4 kinds of cells :- Sieve tubes, Companion cells, Phloem parenchyma and Phloem fibres.
  • Sieve tubes, at maturity loses Nucleus. And their end walls are perforated and have many Sieve pores on Sieve plates.
  • The companion cell is smaller and helps in maintaining activities of the Sieve tube also because it have a prominent nuclei.
  • Phloem parenchyma helps in the storage of food and lateral conduction of food. Phloem fibres are used commercially like Hemp fibres or Jute.

2) Functions of Phloem tissue:

  • Phloem tissue is meant for the translocation of food prepared by leaves by the process of photosynthesis.
  • They transport in both directions(bidirectional) to all the rest upper and lower parts of the plant.

3) As the phloem is one of the part of vascular bundles which is known for the transportation of water, food and minerals in the plant body, They are mostly found in Stem. From Leaves to roots, the phloem helps in the transport of food. And, Xylem helps in the ascent of sap from roots to leaves.
