SOLUTION

TO CHOOSE THE CORRECT OPTION

If product of the roots of   \sf{ {x}^{2} - 3x + k = 0 } is - 2 then k is

  • - 2

  • - 8

  • 8

  • None of these

EVALUATION

Here the given equation is

  \sf{ {x}^{2} - 3x + k = 0 }

Comparing with the general equation

 \sf{a {x}^{2}  + bx + c = 0}

We get

a = 1 , b = - 3 , c = k

So product of the roots

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{c}{a} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =  \frac{k}{1} }

 \displaystyle \sf{ =k}

Again it is given that product of the roots = - 2

k = - 2

FINAL ANSWER

Hence the correct option is - 2
