C in Roman Numbers is used for 100

now u would think of writing 400 as CCCC in Roman Numbers...

but to use Roman no. only a character can be used thrice or atmost 3 times..

so we use CD as Roman no. to represent 400

D=500

C=100

C is written first and then D

why!??

because we subtract 100 (C) from 500 ( D) and the answer would be 400

in roman cccc means 400

STEP BY STEP EXPLANATION

as we know that in roman the value of 'c'

is 100

so in cccc it is c+c+c+c means,

100+100+100+100

=400
