a) 70° = x (base angles of an isosceles triangle are equal)  

70° + 70° + Y = 180°

Y = 180° - 140°

Y = 40°

b) 60° = Y (base angles of an isosceles triangle are equal)  

60° + 60° + X = 180°

X = 180° - 120°

X = 60°
