Answer:

let \: the \: number \: of \: girls \: be \: x

then \: number \: of \: boys \:  =  \frac{2}{5} \times \: x =  \frac{2x}{5}

According  \: to  \: the  \: problem</p><p>

x +  \frac{2x}{5}  = 56

 \frac{5\times \: x + 2x}{5}  = 56

 \frac{5x + 2x}{5}  = 56

 \frac{7x}{5}  = 56

7x = 56 \times 5

7x = 280

x =  \frac{280}{7}

x = 40

therefore

number \: of \: girls \:  = x =  40

number \: of \: boys =  \frac{2x}{5}  =  \frac{2 \times 40}{5}

 \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  =  \frac{80}{5}  = 16

ther \: fore

\huge{no \: of \: girls \:  = 40}

\huge{no \: of \: boys \:  = 16}
