  1. For N2− there are 15 electrons.
  2. Bond order is the number of chemical bonds between a pair of atoms. For example, in diatomic nitrogen N≡N the bond order is 3, in acetylene H−C≡C−H the bond order between the two carbon atoms is also 3, and the C−H bond order is 1. Bond order gives an indication of the stability of a bond.Nitrogen is a diatomic molecule in the VA family on the periodic table. Nitrogen has five valence electrons, so it needs three more valence electrons to complete its octet. A nitrogen atom can fill its octet by sharing three electrons with another nitrogen atom, forming three covalent bonds, a so-called triple bond.
  3. That means the reason behind their strange behaviour lies in their electronic arrangement. So, have a look on electronic configuration of N2 and O2 again. You can see that in N2 all electrons are paired while O2 has 2 unpaired electrons. These unpaired electrons are responsible for the magnetic nature of O2.

Thank you
