Question:-

Cross roads each of width 10m cut at right angles through the centre of a rectangular parkof length 700m and breadth 300m and parallel to its sides. Find the area of the roads. Also find the area of the park excluding the road.

Given:-

Length of park = 700m

breadth of park = 300m

Width of roads = 10m

Required answer:-

i) Area of the roads.

ii) Area of the park excluding the roads.

Solution:-

i)

First take the horizontal road,

length = length of the park = 700m

and, breadth = 10m

Therefore,

area of horizontal road = 700 × 10 = 7000m^2

Now taking the vertical road,

length of road = breadth of the park = 300m

and, breadth = 10m

Therefore,

area of vertical road = 300 × 10 = 3000m^2

Now, total area of roads = 7000+3000-(10)^2

= 10000-100 = 9900m^2

Hence, area of roads = 9900m^2

ii)

Now,

length of park = 700m and, breadth = 300m

Therefore, area of park including roads

= 700×300 = 210000m^2

Therefore, area of roads excluding roads =210000-9900 = 20010m^2

Hence, area of roads excluding roads is 20010m^2
