80 N is the required answer.

GIVEN:

  • Mass of the object , m = 200 kg
  • Initial velocity , u = 8 m/s
  • Final velocity , v = 12 m/s
  • Time , t = 10 sec

TO FIND:

Magnitude of force, f

FORMULAE:

  • According to Newton's second law of motion, f = ma

  • According to first equation of motion, v = u + at

SOLUTION:

STEP 1: TO FIND ACCELERATION

v = u + at \\  \\ 12 = 8 + 10a \\  \\ 10a = 12 - 8 \\  \\ 10a = 4 \\  \\ a =  \frac{4}{10}  \\ \\  a =  \frac{2}{5}  \\  \\ a = 0.4 \:  \frac{m}{ {s}^{2} }

Acceleration is 0.4 m/s²

STEP 2: TO FIND FORCE

f = ma \\  \\ f = 200 \times 0.4 \\  \\ f = 20 \times 4 \\  \\ f = 80 \: newton

ANSWER:

Magnitude of force exerted on the object is 80 N.

DIRECT FORMULA:

Force, f = m (v - u )/ t

FORCE:

  • Force is defined as the product of mass and acceleration.

  • f = ma is the result of Newton's second law of motion.

  • Newton's second law of motion states that force is equal to the rate of change of momentum. f = dp/dt

THREE EQUATIONS OF MOTION:

  • First equation of motion , v = u + at.

  • Second equation of motion, s = ut + (at²)/2

  • Third equation of motion, v²- u² = 2as

  • Three equations of motion can be applied only if acceleration is constant.
