some people can eat things even when standing on their heads due to the peristaltic movement in oesophagus so the movement will help the food go down to the stomach by contracting and releasing action.

When we chew our food and swallow food particles travel from your mouth to the esophagus the esophagus. ... then the sphincter closes to keep food in stomach juices from going back up into the esophagus. the hiatus also helps close off the entryway to the stomach inside.
