x + y = 53

x - y = 25

By simplification we get ,

x = 39

y = 14

2. let the numerator be x then

denominator will be = x + 9

According to the question,

x-7 / x + 9 - 7 = 2/3

x = 25

Hence , numerator = 25

denominator = 34

3. Let cost of sugar be x and rice be y. Then,

According to the question:

5x + 7y = 258

7x + 5y = 246

x = 18

y = 24

Hence the cost of 8 kg sugar and 10 kg rice would be

= 8 * 18 + 10 * 24

= 384 rs
