The character Macbeth is contrastingly different as depicted in Shakespeare's play compared to that in Raphael Holinshed’s Chronicles of England, Scotland, and Ireland.
In the Holinshed's Chronicles, he was sent by King Duncan to get rid of Mackdonwald whereas Shakespeare makes him look more courageous so that Macbeth first find out Mackdonwald before killing him in a battle. It also tries to create a tragic hero out of him.
