slope of a line is given by the formula:m=(y_{2}-y_{1})/(x_{2}-x_{1})

where m is the slope

now,

m=(3-(-1))/(2-4)

  =(3+1)/(-2)

   =4/-2

   =-2

thus slope of the given line=-2
