Given : April bought some sports drinks and slices of pizza for her friends. She bought 3 more sports drinks than slices of pizza.  her total order was 21.25,

one slice of pizza cost 2.25 and one sport drink cost 1.25

To Find :  how many sports drinks did she purchase

Solution:

Let say sports drinks  bought = x

then  slices of pizza.  = x - 3

as She bought 3 more sports drinks than slices of pizza

Cost of sports drink =  1.25x

cost of pizza  = 2.25 ( x - 3)  = 2.25x - 6.75

Total Cost = 1.25x + 2.25 - 6.75

= 3.5x   - 6.75

3.5x   - 6.75 = 21.25,

=> 3.5x  =  28

=> x  = 8

Hence she purchased  8 sport drinks
