STEPHEN HAWKING was born on January 8, 1942 in Oxford, England. He was a British scientist, professor and author who has done groundbreaking work in physics and cosmology and whose books have helped to make science accessible to everyone.  His parents had four sons and Stephen was the eldest of four sons. His mother's name was Isobel Hawking and father's name was  Frank Hawking. He (Stephen's father) was a medical researcher with  a speciality in tropical diseases.

Stephen was recognized to be a bright student in  his early academic life. But as time passed he became  weak in academics at high school level. He was third from the bottom of his class. His field of interest and activities outside school included various kind of tasks. He loved board games. While he was 16 years old, he constructed a computer out of recycled parts. He sloved rudimentary mathematical equations. He was married to fellow Cambridge student, Jane Wilde.

At the age of 21, while studying cosmology at the University of Cambridge, he was diagnosed with  amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Part of his life story is depicted in the 2014 film 'THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING.' Over the years, Stephen Hawking has written or co-written a total of 15 books. A few of the most noteworthy include : The Grand Design, The Universe in a Nutshell, The Theory of Everything. He then began his research on black holes and explained about it in deep and lucid language which is even understoodable by common people. His field of excellence is considered was considered to be Theorectical Physics and Cosmology. He was the discoverer of Hawking Radiation. His achievements  and contribution to science can't be described by few words. His achievements included Albert Einstein Award, he was honoured as the fellow of the Royal Society at the age of 32, also he was rewarded with the Pius XI - Gold medal for Science from Pope Paul VI in 1975. He was also the co-founder of Microsoft Research.

His knowledge and deep thinking allowed science to get on a new level.His theories, books,etc has made science a lot more interesting and understandable then before.He really was a great scientist who actually contributed towards the advancement of science and research.
