Question

Find the curved surface area of the cylinder when

i) Height= 14 m and radius = 10 m

ii) Height = 10m and circumference = 12 m

Solution:-

i) When Height = 14 m and radius = 10 m

=>Curved surfaces area of cylinder is

 \rm \:  =  \: 2\pi rh

=>Put the value on formula

 \rm = 2 \times  \dfrac{22}{7}  \times 10m \times 14m

  \rm = 2 \times  \dfrac{22}{ \cancel7}  \times 10m \times  \cancel{14} \:  \: {}^{2} m

 =  \rm \: 2 \times 22 \times 10 m\times 2m

 \rm = 880 {m}^{2}

=>Curved surface area of cylinder is 880m²

ii) Height = 10m and circumference = 12m

=>Radius is not given so using circumference of circle , we find radius

 \rm \: circumference \:  \: of \: circle \:  = 2\pi  r

 \rm \: 12 = 2\pi  r

6 =  \dfrac{22}{7}  \times r

42 = 22 \times r

 \rm \: r = 1.9

=>let r = 2 m because it is easy to calculation

H = 10 m

=>Curved surfaces area of cylinder is

\rm \:  =  \: 2\pi rh

 = 2 \times  \dfrac{22}{7}  \times 2 \times 10

 \rm =  \dfrac{880}{7}  {m}^{2}

  \rm= 125.71 {m}^{2}

=>Curved surface area of cylinder is 125.71m²
