(a) Distillation is the process in which the components of a mixture are separated by the means of boiling or condensing.

(b) Definitions:

  • Diffusion is the phenomenon in which the particles are transferred from higher concentration to lower concentration through a semi-permeable membrane.
  • Effusion is the process by which gas atoms move out through an opening that is smaller than the distance of molecules.

(d) If ice is replaced with naphthalene, then it would melt until 80 degrees Celcius and then start vapourising.
