Given in question,

 \frac{1}{2}x - 3 = 5 + \frac{1}{3} x

 \frac{x}{2}  - 3 = 5 +  \frac{x}{3}

 \frac{x - 6}{2} =  \frac{15 + x}{3}

by cross multiplication,

3(x - 6) = 2(15 + x)

3x - 18 = 30 + 2x

3x - 2x = 30 + 18

x = 48
