Question :

Current of 200mA is flowing in a conductor. How many free electrons will flow through it in per second.

Given :

Current flow = 200mA

To Find :

Number of electrons passing through conductor per second.

Solution :

❖ First of all we need to find amount of charge flow in conductor.

Electric current is defined as the rate of charge flow per unit time.

Mathematically, I = Q / t

» I denotes current

» Q denotes charge

» t denotes time

  • It is a scalar quantity having only magnitude.
  • SI unit : A

By substituting the given values;

  • I = 200 mA = 0.2 A

➝ I = Q / t

➝ 0.2 = Q / 1

➝ Q = 0.2 × 1

Q = 0.2 C

♦ As per law of quantization, Q = n e

  • n denotes number of electrons
  • e denotes charge of an electron

➙ Q = n e

➙ 0.2 = n × (1.6 × 10‾¹⁹)

➙ n = 0.2/1.6 × 10¹⁹

➙ n = 0.125 × 10¹⁹

n = 1.25 × 10¹⁸ electrons
