Question :

A covered wooden box has the inner measures as 125 cm, 55 cm and 25 cm and thickness of wood is 2.5 cm. Find the volume of the wood.

Answer :

Given :

  • Length (l) = 125 cm
  • Breadth (b) = 55 cm
  • Height (h) = 25 cm
  • Thickness of the wood = 2.5 cm

To find :

  • Volume of the wood

According to the question,

We know that,

→ Volume of a wooden box = l × b × h

Where,

  • l stands for Length
  • b stands for Breadth
  • h stands for Height

→ 125 cm × 55 cm × 25 cm

→ 171875 cm³

So,the volume of wooden box is 171875 cm³

As we know that,

A box have 2 lengths,2 breadths and 2 heights

So,

Now we will find the external measurement

Length = 125 cm + 2 × 2.5 cm = 130 cm

Breadth = 55 cm + 2 ×2.5 cm = 60 cm

Height = 25 cm + 2 × 2.5 cm = 30 cm

External volume of wooden box = l × b × h

→ (130 × 60 × 30) cm³

→ 234000 cm³

Now the volume of wood

→ 234000 cm³ - 171875 cm³

→ 62125 cm³

So,the volume of wood is 62125 cm³...

Inner dimension = 125 cm × 55 cm × 25 cm

Thickness = 2.5 cm

∴ Outer dimension:-

(125 + 2 × 2.5) cm × (55 + 2 × 2.5) cm × (25 + 2 × 2.5 cm)

= 130 cm × 60 cm × 30 cm

Here, actual volume = lbh - l′b′h′

[Outer vol - Inner vol]

i.e.,

(130 × 60 × 30 cm³) - (125 × 55 × 25 cm³)

= 234000 cm³ - 171875 cm³

= 62125 cm³
