  {8}^{2}  + {5}^{2}   =  {a}^{2}

Hence by calculation,

a = √ 64 + 25

= √89

In triangle 2,

Similarly by Pythogoras Theorem

 {12}^{2}   +   {b}^{2}  =  {17}^{2}

Hence by calculation,

b = √289 -144

= 145

b= √145
