Hope this helps you.  Pls mark it Brainliest!!!! :D

Step-by-step explanation:

1) Area of rectangle

The diagram shows that the rectangle is 6 in long and 3 in wide.

Area of rectangle = length × width

= 6 in × 3 in

= 18 in²   ( read it "18 square inches" )

2) Area of triangle

Look at the triangle sideways so that the line on the right is its "base".

The diagram shows that the base is 1 in.

The dashed line is then the height of the triangle.  The diagram shows that this is also 1 in.

Area of triangle = 1/2 × base × height

= 1/2 × 1 in × 1 in

= 1/2 in²   ( read it "half a square inch" )

= 0.5 in²  ( if you prefer decimals, 1/2 is 0.5 )

3) Square inches of plastic in ruler

"Square inches" is asking for the area, since that is measured in square inches here.

Area of plastic

= area of rectangle  -  area of triangular hole

= 18 in² - 0.5 in²

= 17.5 in²
