if see at that figure then

if we - the 14m to 9 m

it will show us that how much extra that tall is

and it 5m

so it's like we have the triangle's back and the base is already 12 m given

and now if we find the hypotenuse

it will be the distance between their tops

so,

AC²= AB²+CB²

x² = 12m²+5m²

x²= 144m+25m

x²= 169m

x= 13m

hence, this is the distance of those poles
