Answer :

1) R = { The set of whole numbers lying between 0 and 2

=> R = {1}

2) D = { the set of largest 1 digit number }

=> D = {9}

a)

Given sets are :

A = {x : x ∈ N, x ≤ 7}

=> A ={ 1,2,3,4,5,6,7}

Number of elements in A = 7

and B = {x : x ∈ W, 1 ≤ x ≤ 7}

=> B ={ 1,2,3,4,5,6,7}

Number of elements in B = 7

The number of elements in the set A = The Number of elements in the set B

=> A and B are equivalent sets

=> A~ B

A and B having same elements

A and B are equal sets

=> A= B

b)

Given sets are :

P = {The set of letters in the word ‘TEETH’}

=> P ={ T,E,H}

=> Number of elements in P = 3

and Q = {The set of letters in the word ‘TOOTH’}

=> Q = { T,O,H}

=>Number of elements in Q = 3

The number of elements in the set P = The Number of elements in the set Q

=> P and Q are equivalent sets

=> P ~Q

Used formulae :-

  • Set of natural numbers are denoted by N
  • N =1,23...
  • If n(A)=n(B) => A->B (Equivalent sets)
  • If elements in A = Elements in B => A=B
