3) draw another arc with centre as other end and radius 5cm

4) join the points to get a triangle

5) lable the triangle as ∆ABC, equilateral triangle

6) bisect BC from A at D

in ∆ADB, <B = 60°, <D =90° &

AD = √3/2 (5) ; BD = 1/2 (5) ( props of equi trngl )

now, tan B = AD/BD ( defn of tan @)

i,e tan 60° = (√3/2) ×5 / (1/2)×5 = √3

therefore tan 60° = √3
