Answer: The least number that must be added = 149

Explanation:

Given  number: 6412

To find: The number that must be added to 6412 to make it a perfect square

Proof:

The nearest root = 80    (∵ 80² = 6400)

But 6400 < 6412

We will take the next number.

The next number = 81

Now, 81² = 6561

⇒ 6561 - 6412 = 149

∴ The required number = 149

6412 + 149 = 6561

6561 is a perfect square.

Verification:

√6561 = 81 or 81² = 6561

Hope you got that.

Thank You.
