Definition: The sign of division is ÷ . The division is a method of distributing a group of things into equal parts. It is one of the four basic operations of arithmetic, which gives a fair result of sharing. If 3 groups of 4 make 12 in multiplication; 12 divided into 3 equal groups give 4 in each group in division.
Example: A division sentence is made up of 3 numbers, a division sign and an equals sign. 20 ÷ 5 = 4 is an example of a division sentence. It contains three numbers, a division sign and an equals sign. 20 ÷ 5 = 4 means that 20 shared into 5 equal groups would give us 4 in each group.
Division: 12 ÷ 6 = 2
Multiplication (Same example only but the number is shuffled) 6 x 2 = 12
