1/30+1/60=1/R1

R1=20

x&40 are in parallel so

1/x+1/40=1/R2

R2= 40x/41

net resistance is50 ohm

so R1+R2 = R

20+40x/41= R

820+40x = 2050. (ref.- image is attached)

x= 30.8ohm

for second part

1&2 series so

1+2= 3 ohm

and 1.5 in parallel

so

1/3+1/1.5 = 1

so equivalent resistance is 1ohm
