Explanation:
Human beings have radically altered naturally occurring ecosystems over the past several thousand years. The world bears little resemblance to what existed thousands of years ago absent extensive human activity. The destructive activity has increased dramatically over the past few centuries and particularly over the very latest century due to very rapid human expansion made possible by industrialization.
A population bomb has occurred with the human population doubling roughly every 30 years or so. This is crowding out most of the mega-fauna on the planet. Pollution and pesticides are poisoning the environment for a great many species. Essentially no first growth forests remain in the U.S. . Massive ongoing deforestation ongoing in the tropics. Human introduced invasive species are wiping out indigenous populations of plants and animals.
Worst of all, human expansion and industrialization has resulted in climate changing greenhouse gases to be rapidly on the rise within the atmosphere coupled with an acidifying of the oceans. This is a disaster for life on this planet, especially when life must deal with being attacked from so many directions simultaneously duo to human activities.
The current state of affairs is not long term sustainable. We are headed for ecological collapse. It’s just a matter of time.
