divide the trapezium ABCD into triangle AED and rectangle BCDE

find the area of Triangle AED

area of triangle is 1/2×base×height

but we don't know the base length of the triangle

length of base is 16-8 (total length minus length of rectangle)

=8

so area of triangle is 1/2×8×17

=68mts

area of rectangle is length×breadth

but we don't know the length of rectangle

so use pythogoras theorem in triangle

17=underoot 8 square+x square

17 square-8 square=x square

289-64=x square

underoot 225=x

15=x

so,area of rectangle is 15×8mts

=120mts

add both the areas,we get

68+120

=188mts

so area of trapezium ABCD is 188mts
