the sum of two numbers is 111

let the numbers be x and y

so,

x + y = 111. .....(1)

also given that

one number exceeds the Other by 3

so,

x = y + 3

x - y = 3. .....(2)

now we,

x + y = 111. .....(1)

x - y = 3. .....(2)

adding both equations

x + y + x - y= 111 + 3

2x = 114

x = 114/2

x = 57

from (1)

x + y = 111

57 + y = 111

y = 111 - 57

y = 54

so,

the required numbers are

➪ 57 and 54
