  • Yes,it's possible for a fair skinned couple to give birth to a child with brown skin. Skin colour is a polygenic trait, meaning it's controlled by many genes.

  • Also, according to the Mendel's Law of Dominance,the recessive traits show up in 1/4th population in the Second Filial Generation.

  • Due to the polygenic effects,neither gene is able to completely affect the particular trait leading to the wide variety of variations in that particular trait termed as Incomplete Dominance or Incomplete Recession

  • Often the recessive traits remain dormant and show up in alternating generations. It is likely that the parental generation happens to be one.
