Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

5/8= boys

So,5/8-8/8=3/8, which is girls

3/8×x(total no of students)=240

X=240×8/3=640

So no.of boys =5/8×640=400

15) Let, the  total number of students be,'x'

The number of boys = (x*5/8)

                                   = 5x/8

The number of girls = (x-5x/8)

                                 = (8x-5x)/8

                                 = 3x/8

By condition,

3x/8 = 240

or, x = 240*8/3

or, x = 80*8

or, x = 640

(Ans): Total 640 students.

16) Let, the total number of pages be, 'x'

The number of pages has read = (x*7/9)

                                                    = 7x/9

The number of pages has left to read = (x-7x/9)

                                                               = (9x-7x)/9

                                                               = 2x/9

By condition,

2x/9 = 40

or, x = 40*9/2

or, x = 20*9

or, x = 180

(Ans) : Total 180 pages.
