every parallel resistant is added like 1/R=1/R1+1/R2
and in sequential R= R1+R2
so 8 and 4 are parallel so total resistant will be as per formula 1 ---- 1/(1/8+1/4)=8/3
and 4 and 2 are parallel so resistant will be 1/(1/2+1/4) =4/3
Now these two resistance are in sequence so resistance will be 8/3+4/3=12/3=4
