see it's like this

the 4 ohm and 2 ohm resistor are in parallel so

1/R eq = 1/4+1/2

1/R eq = 3/4

so by reverse we get

Req across 4 ohm and 2 ohm resistor = 3/4

now across 8 ohm and 4 ohm

I/Req=1/8+1/4

1/Req=3/8

so Req=8/3

now coming both of them in series

3/4+8/3

= 41/12
