girls =5/8 of total

Let total students =x

Girls more =120

Now of girls =5/8x

Boys =5/8x - 120

Boys + girls = x

(5/8 x - 120) + 5/8 x =x

2 X 5/8x - 120=x

5/4x - 120=x

(5x-480)/4=x

5x-480=4x

5x-4x=480

X=480


Boys=(5/8 x480) - 120

=5x60-120

=300-120

=180

Short cut

Let denominator as total students

And numerator is equal to total girls

So we have

Total students =8

Girls=5

Boys=8-5=3

Number of Girls more then boys=5-3=2

According to the question it is =120

Comparing

1 unit assumed =120/2=60

Total students=8x60=480

Boys=3x60=180

Girls =5x60=300
