Typically, people think of genius, whether it manifests itself in Mozart composing symphonies at age five or Einstein's discovery of relativity, as having a quality not just of the supernatural but also they are eccentric.

A. as having a quality not just of the supernatural but also they are eccentric

B. as having two qualities, being that they are both supernatural as well as eccentric

C. as having a quality not just of the supernatural but also of the eccentric

D. as having a quality not just of the supernatural but also another quality, that is, eccentricity

E. as it has two qualities, not only supernatural but as well eccentric

MEANING: people think of genius as having two qualities

IDIOM: not just X but also Y

A. "not just of the supernatural but also THEY ARE eccentric" not parallel and unintended;

B. "being that they are BOTH supernatural AS WELL AS eccentric" nonsensical and unidiomatic (both x AND y);

D. "not just of the supernatural but also ANOTHER QUALITY, that is, eccentricity" not parallel and unintended;

E. "as it [genius] has two qualities, not only supernatural but AS WELL eccentric" nonsensical and unidiomatic (not only x but ALSO);

Pure play of parallelism of 'not just' … 'but also'

A. as having a quality not just of the supernatural but also they are eccentric--- unparallel. (Not only preposition...but also clause). out.

B. As having two qualities, being that they are both supernatural as well as eccentric --- 'being that' is a modifier and hence wrong. 2. Genius is singular but 'they' is plural -- see the pronoun 'it' just after genius. Out.

C. as having a quality not just of the supernatural but also of the eccentric --- correct choice

D. as having a quality not just of the supernatural but also another quality, that is, eccentricity---unparallel, 'not just of'…' but also another'.

E. as it has two qualities, not only supernatural but as well eccentric--- There is no such conjunction 'as not only' … 'but as well'.
