Reason:

(1).When water is poured in the bowl, the rays of light coming from the coin travel from water (denser medim ) to air (rarer medium). Hence, they bend away from the normal on refraction. Therefore the coin appears to be raised and becomes visible when observed from one side of the bowl.

(2).the sun is seen on the horizontal little before sunrise or the sun is seen on the origin for sometimes even after sunset due to atmospheric refraction

(3).The pencil appears to be bent when it is kept in a glass tumbler with water due to refraction of light. The refraction of light occurs when the speed of light changes when it travels from one medium to another. But when the pencil is dipped in kerosene or in oil, the bending is not the same because they are optically denser than water.

(4).The bottom of a pond appears to be raised due to the phenomenon of REFRACTION. While having a look into the pond, light travels from denser medium(water) to rarer medium(air) after reflecting from the surface of the pond. ... This creates illusion of raised bottom as in this case of the pond.
