Q1. Since he used 2/3 cup of sugar for the first and 1/4 cup for the second, we need to add them up. In order to do so, we make the denominators the same. (Find the lowest common multiple of 4 and 3 (both denominators). In this case, it's 12.)

2/3 (Multiply 4 on both sides) = 8/12

1/4 (Multiply 3 on both sides) = 3/12

8/12 + 3/12 = 11/12.

Marty used 11/12 cup of sugar.

Q2. Pam walks 7/8 of a mile where Paul walks 1/2 of a mile. In this question, we need to find the difference between both distances. So, we do 7/8 - 1/2.

Like Question 1, we have to make the denominators the same (lowest common multiple of 8 and 2, which is 16.)

7/8 (Multiply 2 on both sides) = 14/16

1/2 (Multiply 8 on both sides) = 8/16

14/16 - 8/16 = 6/16

6/16 (Divide 2 on both sides to simplify) = 3/8.

Pam walked 3/8 of a mile further than Paul.

1. total amt. of sugar is used is = 2/3 cup of sugar+1/4 cup of sugar

lcm of 3 nd 4 is 12

2/3=8/12 and 1/4=3/12

hence adding 8/12+3/12 =11/12

2.)extra distance covered by pam is

7/8-1/2

lcm of 8 and 2 is 8

hence 7/8=7/8 nd 1/2=4/8

subtracting we get 3/8
