Let Joseph Speed= x km/hr

Let Hamid Speed = y km/hr

In same direction, speed = (x+y)km/hr

Time taken to meet = 30/(x+y) = 1/3

x + y = 90 ------ (i)

In opposite direction, speed = (x-y)km/hr

Time taken for Hamid to catch up = 30/(x-y) = 3

x-y = 10 ---- (ii)

On Solving (i) and (ii) simultaneously

x + y = 90

x - y = 10

---------------

2x = 80

x = 40

Then:

x - y = 10

40 - y = 10

y = 50

Therefore;

Speed of Joseph = 40 km/hr

Speed of Hamid = 50 km/hr

Hope it helps!
