Your solution

 \alpha   \: +  \:  \beta  \:  =  \frac{ - b}{a}

 \alpha  \:  +  \beta  \:  =   \frac{ - 4}{k}

and

 \alpha  \:  \times  \beta  \:  =  \frac{k}{k}  = 1

 { (\alpha  + \beta ) }^{2}  \\  =  >  { \alpha }^{2}  +  { \beta }^{2}  + 2 \alpha . \beta

( { \frac{  -  4}{k} )}^{2}  = 24 + 2

 \frac{16}{ {k}^{2} }  = 26

k =  \frac{ \sqrt{26} }{4}
