Given - In triangleABC, CF||AD

line l intersect side

AB and BC at point C and F respectively

To Prove - BD/CD=AB/AC

Construction - Draw seg CF||AD such that A-F-B

Proof - In triangleABC and triangleFCD

A(triFBC)/A(triFCD)=BC/CD ----------(1) Areas proportionate to bases

In A(triABC) and A(triACD)

A(triABC)/A(triACD)=AB/AC ----------(2) Areas proportionate to heights

segCF is common base in triFCD

and triCFA

segCF||segAD

hence,triFCD and triCFA have

equal heights

A(triFBC)/A(triFCD)=A(triABC)/

A(triACD)

BC/CD=AB/AC ---------from(1)&(2)
