a) Since l is a straight line and therefore by linear pair angle:
LOP (just mark the point of intersection of l and p as O) + 4x-9 = 180
⇒ LOP = 180 - 4x + 9
= 189 - 4x
since l and m are parallel
⇒ 189 - 4x = x + 4 (corresponding angles )
⇒ 189 - 4 = x + 4x
⇒ 185 = 5x
⇒ 185/5 = x
⇒ x = 37
This is part (a) answer.
since l and m are parallel and DE acts as an transversal
⇒ 50 + 5x = 7x + 26 (corresponding angles )
⇒ 50 - 26 = 7x - 5x
⇒ 24 = 2x
⇒ 24/2 = x
⇒ 12 = x
