 \frac{1}{1 +  {x}^{a - b} }  +  \frac{1}{1 +  {x}^{b - a} }  \\  =  \frac{1 +  {x}^{a - b} + 1 +  {x}^{b - a}  }{1 +  {x}^{b - a} +  {x}^{a - b}  +  {x}^{a - b + b  -  a}  }  \\  =  \frac{2 +  {x}^{a - b} +  {x}^{b - a}  }{1 +  {x}^{a - b} +  {x}^{b - a}  +  {x}^{0}  }   \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  {x}^{0}  = 1\\  =  \frac{2 +  {x}^{a - b} +  {x}^{b - a}  }{2 +  {x}^{a - b} +  {x}^{b - a}} \\   = 1
by this way you can easily solve the second too.it is too long to do with equation editor.
