Given Question:-

The position of element A, B, C in the periodic table are given below.

A: Third period and 16th group

B: Fourth period and 5th group

C: Fourth period and 4th group

Answers:

a) Write the electronic configuration of A,B & C?

Ans.a) Element A:

Period number = 3

So,

Number of shells = 3

Group number = 16

So,

Valence shell electrons = 6

Thus,

Electronic configuration = 2,8,6

[Capacity of first shell = 2 electrons

Capacity of second shell = 8 electrons]

Element B:

Period number = 4

So,

Number of shells = 4

Group number = 5

So,

Valence shell electrons = 5

Thus,

Electronic configuration = 2, 8, 8, 5

Element C:

Period number = 4

So,

Number of shells = 4

Group number = 4

So,

Valence shell electrons = 4

Thus,

Electronic configuration = 2, 8, 8, 4

b) Which among them are transition elements?

Ans.b) Transition Elements:

Elements which are found to be in Group 3 - 12 are known as transition elements.

Thus, Element B and C are transition elements.

c) Write any two characteristics of transition elements?

Ans.c) • They are hard and have high densities.

• They can form stable complexes.
