Good morning teachers and friends.
Let me introduce myself. My name is Nancy khurana of class X A. I am here to report on the acute problem of waterlogging in the city of Lucknow during monsoon.
The heavy rains this monsoon, has exposed the grave problem of waterlogging in the city.This is despite the Municipal Corporation spending a substantial amount, in providing civic amentias to the residents of the city. The problem this year is very grave, several localities including the posh Hazratganj market, have knee-deep water after every thundershower.
Other localities like Gomtinagar said, "We are living in perpetual fear of water entering our homes after every short spell of rain. The dug up roads and the encroachment on public land have choked the drains."
The situation in low-lying areas is far worse. These localities like Daliganj, Arjunganj and parts of old Lucknow, have been inundated with the rising water of the river Gomti. The river is already flowing above the danger mark. With the meteorological department predicting more rains in the coming days, the situation is bound to aggravate further. The administration has already shifted affected people tp relief camps, that have been set up in schools and other public buildings. In the absence of a bundh in the low lying areas, this has now become an annual feature.
The unhygenic conditions prevailing in the city due to waterlogging, is an open invitation for epidermis like malaria, cholera and other deadly diseases, that could cost many dear lives. There is an urgent need to address this problem immediately.
