(3) Let 1/(x - 2) be u and 1/(y + 3) be v.

→ 27u + 31v = 85 __(1)

→ 31u + 27v = 89 __(2)

By adding and subtracting (2) by (1) we get,

→ 58u + 58v = 174 and 4u - 4v = 4

→ 58(u + v) = 58 × 3 and 4(u - v) = 4 × 1

→ u + v = 3 and u - v = 1

______________________________

On adding both equations we get,

→ u = 2 and v = 1

______________________________

Therefore,

→ 1/(x - 2) = 2 and 1/(y + 3) = 1

→ 2x - 4 = 1 and y + 3 = 1

→ x = 2 and y = - 2

Hence value of x is 2 and y is - 2.
