Given , that the fig. HOPE is a parallelogram .
We know , that in a parallelogram , the opposite angles are equal .

So , acc. to the figure ,
42° = x + 2x + 3x
=> 42° = 6x
=> 7° = x .

Now , angle OHE and angle HEP sum up to 180 ° and angle HEP is 42°

So , acc. to the diagram ,
180° = angle OHE + 42°
=> angle OHE = 180° - 42°
=> angle OHE = 138° .

Now , x + y + angle OHE = 180° ( since they are the three angles of a triangle ) .

So , x + y + angle OHE = 180°
=> 7° + y + 138° = 180°
=> y + 145° = 180°
=> y = 35° . [ answer ]
