Solution-

Given - Height of a bench back (perpendicular)= 3 ft

width of bench seat (base) = 1 ft

To Find - Length of arm (hypotenuse)

Now, By Pythagoras theorem

(Hypotenuse)^2 = (Perpendicular)^2 + (Base)^2

(H) ^2 = (3)^2 + (1)^2

(H) ^2 = 9 + 1

(H) ^2 = 10

H = √10

Hence, Length of arm is √10 = 3.2ft
